WSSA KZN Annual Exhibition 2011

“A CELEBRATION OF LIGHT”

Dear Members and Friends of the Watercolour Society of SA,

Our Annual Exhibition will be held on Saturday 9th July and Sunday 10th July 2011 at St Thomas Church Hall off Essenwood Road. (Also accessible from Musgrave Rd)

This venue gives us exposure to people who attend the St Thomas’ Saturday Tea Garden and is easily accessible to those who visit the Essenwood Road Flea Market on Saturday mornings. On Sunday, members of the Church can then view the exhibition after the morning services.

Please bring your paintings at 12.30pm on Friday 8th July to the Church Hall

SELECTION OF PAINTINGS

Each artist who wishes to exhibit can submit up to 4 paintings of which at least one painting must be a watercolour painting. These watercolour paintings will be subject to selection by a panel of judges who are Associates or Fellows of the Watercolour Society of SA. Watercolour paintings that are selected can then be suitably framed. I suggest that you submit at least one small painting because there is a market for small paintings. WSSA reserves the right to limit the number of paintings to be exhibited.

The selection will take place at the Baptist Church, Church Road, Westville (opposite the Super Spar) on Saturday 11th June at 8.30am. Paintings can be collected at 1.00pm.

NB Please bring your hanging fees and paintings in other media to the selection so that we can complete the details of all the paintings that will be submitted before the exhibition.

All paintings must have secure wire/string for hanging.

HANGING FEES

The hanging fees are:

Members of the Watercolour Society of SA - R20 per painting

Friends of the Watercolour Society - R30 per painting

COMMISSION ON PAINTINGS SOLD

20% commission will be charged on paintings that are sold at the Exhibition

Her work is currently published worldwide in open and limited editions by the International print publishers. Her work is sold in Ikea worldwide.

Report on last Meeting:

Our last meeting on March 27th was attended by about 60 people (members and visitors). Bev Letard entertained us all with a wonderful demo in watercolour, painting Grapes with the pouring and blending method which she studied with her mentor, a Chinese Master Artist Lian Quan Zen, who lives in America. She paints with the three primary colours of red, yellow and blue only. She also demo’ed inks on canvass – we were fascinated! As a result of this, Bev was requested to do workshops on the pouring and blending technique – they have proved very popular and the first two were fully booked. She has two more workshops scheduled for 15th May and 17th May. These are on orchids. Call her on 031-5617000.

SnailMail:

Linda Lemon has volunteered to send out the SnailMail to those of you who are not on email. A big thank you to Linda! You should already have received our last newsletter and from now on you will all be receiving our newsletters in the post (or by email). Our thanks go to Chris Reabow who is helping with the emailing but we are still needing a Secretary.

Challenge Results:

The March Challenge was won by Brian Duckitt 1st, with Irma Isbister 2nd, and Chris Reabow 3rd. Don’t forget to bring your paintings for the June meeting. The Challenge is “Remember, Remember….” There’s a great prize to be awarded to the overall winner at the end of our year in February 2011.

We are holding our first Exhibition ever in All Media in the Hillcrest Library on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th June 2010. Friends of the Library will benefit from part of the proceeds of this exhibition. It is only open to members of the Watercolour Society/KZN Branch and you will be able to exhibit a maximum 3 paintings, one of which must be a watercolour. The submission fee is R25 per artwork. There will be no selection and paintings must be delivered to the Hillcrest Library in Delamore Road, Hillcrest, for hanging on Thursday 24th June between 8.00am and 9.00 am. There will be an opening Cocktail Party on Thursday 24th June at

Dulcie Robinson Passed On – A tribute from Angela Eidelman, President of WSSA:

It is with great sadness that I learned today of the passing of Dulcie Robinson. What a very special person she was. Dulcie was an inspirational artist who rendered great service and leadership to the W.S.S.A. She shared her vast expertise with many of the pupils who she taught, giving them encouragement and inspiration in the medium of water colour. Somehow she always had something new to share at her workshops which were always a joy to attend. We will be the poorer without her but the memory of Dulcie will always be with us. “Go well and decorate heaven, Dulcie”.
